Program Features

Salem State’s criminal justice curriculum emphasizes applied theory and research, and is rooted in social justice—preparing students to assess, analyze, and respond to complex social problems ethically and equitably. You will acquire advanced knowledge of current and developing criminological theory, data analysis, and criminal justice policy and practice. Our curriculum develops the competencies needed to conduct sophisticated crime analyses, use academic research to inform decision-making and develop effective public policy responses, preparing you for leadership roles in your chosen field.

Curriculum 

The program is a 33-credit-hour degree available under two plans (thesis and non-thesis). All students complete the core courses.

Careers 

The MS in criminal justice prepares students for leadership roles in their chosen fields. Many of our students are already employed in the field and are seeking to advance their careers. 

Professional opportunities in criminal justice are diverse and include areas such as law enforcement, homeland security, security management, corrections, probation, and criminal investigation.
